Praia do Tofo (Tofo beach) is full of Mozambican culture flavoured with a lively international expat community. Known for its pristine shoreline and azure Indian Ocean waters, Tofo boasts two spectacular beachfronts, each with its own vibe.
The main beach (The Bay), frames the bustling market town and is the launch site for the four dive centres in Tofo. The crescent shaped beach is 8 km long and is protected from strong easterly winds and large swells. This protection allows calmer waters, better for learning surfers, snorkelers, and swimmers.
Tofinho, just around the corner, houses a world-class right hand point-break for more experienced surfers. Tofinho Point, an elevated cliff overlooking the ocean, is also one of the best places in town to site humpbacks, dolphins, and the occasional breaching manta.
Despite gaining international renown for diving, surfing, and unique marine wildlife, Tofo retains a small-town community feel. The Bitonga people, known as the Boa Gente (The Good People) serve as gracious hosts, sharing their tropical paradise with open hearts and arms. With a subtropical climate, Tofo is a year-round destination.
There is no ATM in Tofo, and although some businesses take cards, you’ll need cash for most outings. There closest ATM is 5 km outside of town at the petrol station.
